The leaves are starting to turn, there’s a chill in the air, and the kids are back in school. You know what that means. Fall has arrived! And while it’ll certainly be cooler from here on out, there are still plenty of opportunities to go camping throughout the season. In fact, with the way things have been, getting out and away from the city may just be the perfect way to still enjoy some recreational activities, either as a family or a solo traveler. You’ll just need to tweak how you prepare and plan your trips first.

That’s why Airstream of Utah has provided some tips for planning the perfect fall camping trip. Check them out for yourself, and if you’re interested in visiting your local Airstream® RV dealer, stop by our location in Salt Lake City, servicing Park City and Provo, for a safe and welcoming shopping experience!

Prepping the RV

Camping during autumn is a little different from camping during the warmer summer months. You’ll want to be ready for cooler temperatures and wetter days. For your RV, this will mean checking to make sure the heating system works and possibly opting for better insulation options, like thicker curtains. If you plan to continue camping into the winter, you may want to start preparing your plumbing system for freezing temperatures.

Check out our cold weather camping tips article for a complete list of ways you can prepare for even colder temperatures.

The Right Clothes

You probably won’t need your really thick coats yet, but be sure to pack plenty of layers and a good windbreaker to keep you warm. It might also be time to pull out some blankets that you keep in storage.

Don’t forget, you’re going to see lots of rain during the fall. Even if you plan to head inside if the skies turn gray, be sure to pack waterproof jackets, umbrellas, and even ponchos. You’ll also need a good set of shoes you don’t mind getting a little wet and muddy.

Food

A new season means new recipes. Take this opportunity to change up what’s in your cabinets. You might even look for some local farms and markets that are selling fresh produce to keep things exciting and healthy. Consider stocking up on apple cider, chilli and cornbread, pumpkin soup, and mashed sweet potato to really immerse yourself in the season.

Fall Activities Around Your Airstream

Fall entertainment will likely be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Bring some sporting equipment or hiking boots to take advantage of the nice days, along with some board games and a movie or two to keep your camping party occupied when it’s wet and cold out. Try to stay flexible and check the weather before you head outside for some fun away from the trailer.

Autumn Attractions

Usually, you can expect a plethora of festivals, fairs, and other forms of entertainment near you that could make for a fun and unique day out. With the way things have been, it’s likely that some of these festivals might be cancelled, but many event planners have had time to adapt to this new environment. As you’re planning your trip, look for local events that you might be interested in attending, and then check out any rules or changes they might be enforcing this year to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Holiday Events

Speaking of local events, the holidays are just around the corner! Between Halloween and Thanksgiving, many communities enjoy throwing parties and planning activities centered around some of the biggest holidays of the season. If you enjoy traveling during these celebrations, you may want to check out local festivities so you can still spend time with friends and a welcoming community, even if you’re far from home.

While other campers might be looking to put away their Airstream trailers, if you’re still raring to hit the road, then make the most out of this unique traveling experience!
