A rainy day doesn’t have to be a bad one, even on vacation. An RV or trailer is teeming with distractions for families, friends, and travel buddies. It’s a good idea to plan ahead, though, so consider the suggestions below before packing for your next adventure. Sleepover Games

Classic games played at sleepovers make excellent rainy day distractions. An RV offers more than enough space for games like truth-or-dare, card-based social deduction games like Mafia/Werewolf, or even cooperative storytelling adventures. These activities are great for families with children, but they can make an afternoon fun for adults, as well.

DIY Movie Theater

Digital projectors are important RV entertainment gear. Whether you set up a screen outside for a movie under the stars or cuddle up in a pillow fort for a family flick, you get a cinematic experience beyond a laptop screen’s range. On a cold, rainy day, a comforting film and a warm mug of hot chocolate can lighten the mood. Popcorn, of course, helps, too.

Board Games

There are board games for everyone. Whether you travel with other adults, small children, or an extended family, board games can be a reliable distraction when it’s too wet to explore outside. Today's board games go beyond classics you played as a child, though those are fun, too. Try to bring a variety, and look for games that will be fun the third time you play, not just the first.

Arts and Crafts

There’s nothing like making something with your own hands. Although arts and crafts are traditionally aimed at children, you don’t need to be limited to pipe cleaners and crayons. Bring some balloons and a handpump along. See who can make the best balloon animal. Try your hand at origami and vote on the most — or least — lifelike. If you recently bought your RV, rainy days could be a good opportunity to make decorations together.

Entertainment in the Lodge

Many RV resorts include communal lodges and/or game rooms. These may offer activities like foosball or billiards, and they’ll probably attract other guests on the rainiest days. It’s a good place to meet new friends and stretch your legs if the day’s hiking or fishing trips get cancelled. If you have board games suitable for large groups, it’s worth bringing them along to expand your pool of potential players.

Local Attractions

If there are museums, restaurants, and other indoor attractions nearby, rainy days may be the best time to visit. Explore interesting, local shops, and ask RV resort hosts for dining recommendations. Even grocery shopping somewhere new can be a good distraction as can cooking a meal together back in the RV with your purchases.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy a rainy day. Stay in, go out, or blend your schedule to include as many kinds of fun as possible.
