Your Airstream Travel Trailer Buying Guide
The sun’s rising on a warmer season and you might be hearing the call of the wild. Camping can be a great way to enjoy the great outdoors, but it’s not all about tents and sleeping bags. For those who want something a little more comfortable, consider turning to Airstream travel trailers. These RVs are designed to provide efficiency and comfort, as long as you’re getting the model best suited for your family. Check out the guide that Airstream of Utah has provided, and then stop by our location in Salt Lake City to see which models we have for sale right now.
Trailer Size
First and foremost, you’ll want to consider how big your Airstream trailer needs to be. This is probably going to be based off of how many people there are in your camping party. If you’re a solo traveler, or only traveling with one other person, then you probably have your pick of options, as most trailers are big enough to fit at least two people.
However, as your camping party gets bigger and bigger, even if they’re smaller children, you’re going to need more sleeping accommodations. This is going to ultimately mean a bigger trailer. Take note of how many people you expect to join you on your camping trips--including any guests--so we can find you a model that’s big enough.
Your Camping Style
Now think about how big you want your trailer to be. You’ll need a different RV when checking out the rugged landscape around Park City as opposed to some of the bigger RV parks with flat land and full hookups. Smaller Airstream campers are going to be easier to take to some of the more remote camping locations. Bigger Airstream trailers are going to provide more spacious interiors and more comfortable living arrangements. Both can have advantages and disadvantages, which means at the end of the day, it’s going to boil down to what you want from your camping trips.
Your Destination
Next, think about how often you’re going to hit the road and for how long. The more time you spend on the road, you’ll want to consider investing more money in something you know will hold up over a longer period of time. Then again, if you’re more of an occasional camper, then it’s probably not necessary to buy the most expensive Airstream travel trailer. For example, driving to Provo or Ogden might not be that bad, but if you make regular trips out of the state, you’ll want to find something that can handle the heat.
The Budget
Of course, few things have as much influence on a major investment as budget. You’ll want to make sure you’re spending your money wisely and aren’t putting yourself in a tough financial bind. Compare the kind of money you can afford to spend with the average prices of the Airstream trailers on the market. Your budget should be realistic for both areas.
Don’t forget, your budget should probably include other considerations. For example, maintenance costs are an essential part of owning any RV. You’ll also want to think about some of the gear you might need to invest in, including the possibility of a tow vehicle more qualified to haul the trailer. There are other things like fuel, registration (if necessary), and more that could impact how much you ultimately spend on your Airstream travel trailer.
Longevity
This one’s easy to forget about, since most people assume they can continue to use their RV until either they wear it into the ground or they make the final payment on it. But there are other influencing factors into how long you might be able to use your camper. If you do want to wait until it falls apart to replace it, in your mind, how long is that? 10 years? 20 years? 50 years? Make sure whatever number you have in your head is actually realistic for Airstream travel trailers.
Also, consider how your family might grow in a short amount of time. We’re talking to some of the younger parents, or even soon-to-be grandparents, who want to bring younger children with them. As those kids get bigger, they’re going to need their own sleeping space, a space which a smaller trailer might not have. These long-term considerations are just as important as the ones you’re making for the here and now.
