Your Post RV Vacation Cleaning Checklist
After an RV vacation, your camper returns home a little worse for wear. Gunk from the campground can collect on the roof, the counters may be coated in a sticky residue, and so on. There are some key camper maintenance tasks you'll want to tackle once you get home from a vacation. Use the following cleaning checklist to stay organized.
If you want more maintenance tips or want to shop RVs for sale, visit Airstream of Utah. Our dealership is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and we also serve those in Park City and Provo.
1. Gather Up The Family
You shouldn't have to handle the post-trip cleaning on your own. Enlist the help of family members. They enjoyed the fun of the vacation and should help with the cleanup. Give everyone age-appropriate tasks and the process will go by faster.
2. Get Fresh Air Inside The RV
Open up the various doors and windows while you clean your camper. This gets fresh air flowing throughout your RV. You can even add some plug-in air fresheners to take it up a notch.
3. Start A Load Of Laundry
You likely have some sheets, towels, and clothing to wash. Toss it into the washer at the start of the RV cleaning process. It's more efficient and helps you get twice as many chores done in the same amount of time.
4. Clear Out Perishables
Go through your RV and take out any perishables. You don't want food rotting away, adding unpleasant smells, or even attracting pests. Check the fridge, pantry, and any other spots you store food, then transfer them to your house kitchen.
5. Take Out The Trash
Collect the trash from each room and remove it. Otherwise, the garbage could also contribute to unwanted smells or pests.
6. Unpack Your Items
Some items, such as travel toiletries and kitchenware, can stay stored in your camper. For all the other supplies, be sure to put them back where they belong in your house. This can include charging cords for electronics, stuffed animals, and any medications.
7. Sweep And Vacuum
Your camper's floors may be covered in grime, from crumbs to dirt. Sweep or vacuum each room to get them returned to their former glory.
8. Deep Clean The Bathroom
RV bathrooms can get quite dirty during a vacation. Take a moment to sanitize the surfaces, clean the toilet, clean the bathtub, and so on.
9. Wash The RV Awning
If your camper has an awning, give it a rinse and wash. This will help remove gunk, such as bird droppings or tree sap, before it fully hardens and becomes extra difficult to clean.
10. Tend To The RV Tanks
You may be due to empty and clean the camper holding tanks. This helps keep water fresh and reduce any unwanted smells. Follow the procedure outlined in the RV owner manual.
11. Wash The RV Exterior
You likely won't need to clean the camper after each vacation. But if you faced a high amount of dust, dirt, mud, and other gunk, you may want to clean the walls before placing the camper back in storage.
