Airstream® Part Upgrades
Regardless of whether you own a modern or a vintage Airstream trailer or RV, something is bound to need replacing on it at some point. RVs see a great deal of wear and tear over hundreds of miles on the road and it’s important that you do what you can to keep your Airstream in good working order. This may require you to replace or upgrade some parts of it to make it more functional.
Airstream of Utah, located in Salt Lake City, is proud to be your Utah Airstream dealer. We are family-owned and operated, ready to help you out however we can. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you choose parts to upgrade your Airstream to get it just the way you want.
Is Finding Parts Easy?
Yes! Fortunately, many Airstream parts are easy enough to obtain because they weren’t specially manufactured, so you should be able to locate whatever you’re looking for, outside of the exterior skin, of course. You will have to do some digging, but you can find parts for your Airstream going back to the 1950s. Obtaining a catalog of Airstream parts is one way to look for them; you can also contact us here at Airstream of Utah to order parts specially for your particular model if you have something that needs to be replaced.
What Parts Should I Look For?
There are hundreds of different Airstream parts that you can replace or upgrade. Here are just a few of the most popular parts that Airstream owners seek.
Name Plates & Decals
One of the most popular parts many people need for their Airstream trailers is the signage on the outside! Those small metal name plates bearing the names of the trailers and the company logo and even the distinctive decal stickers are widely available in many different iterations, so if your decals or name plates have fallen off or become damaged, you can easily locate these Airstream parts.
Wi-Fi & Cell Signal Boosters
This is of especial importance for older models from long before the smartphone era. However, even newer models may not have the strongest signals. A WiFi and/or cell phone signal booster can ensure that you’re able to establish a stronger data connection for your various devices.
Shore Power
Most Airstream models have had the same shore power connection for many years, and it generally works fairly reliably. However, sometimes the connection may run hot when you’re using power-hungry appliances like air-conditioning units. You may also accidentally strip the threads when attaching the cable. This is why upgrading your shore power connection may be worthwhile, and you can get something more powerful and durable that can handle more heavy power usage.
Batteries
Another common replacement for Airstream RVs is the battery. The two deep-cycle wet-cell batteries on your trailer can wear down over time and merit replacement. If you dry-camp/boondock on a regular basis, then your batteries are more likely to wear out sooner rather than later. You may wish to upgrade to a lithium or AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery to improve power.
Lighting
Most newer Airstream trailers have bright and efficient LED lights in them already, which helps to reduce power consumption. But if you have an older Airstream, it may be equipped with incandescent or halogen bulbs instead, which suck up a lot more energy. Fortunately, you can replace these bulbs with LED lighting pretty easily.
