Why Airstream? Why Airstream of Utah?

Aug. 2 2017 Articles By Airstream of Utah

Airstream has been around since 1931. Being the only travel trailer company to make it through World War II, we can see that they stand the test of time. But why? What makes them different and special? If you were to go onto Airstream.com you would be able to read a lot of long words that would tell you these things but I am going to condense the information so you can understand for yourself what makes an airstream from Airstream of Utah the best choice.
To begin let's talk about that shiny exterior. The outer shell is made of aluminum. What makes that significant? Aluminum is extremely light and strong. This means that you will have the ease of towing with 20% better gas mileage without having to compromise any sort of durability. This unique look isn't only for the cool factor, it is about the architecture. Airstreams are what is called a semi-monocoque structure. Some big words to say but simply mean the body of an Airstream trailer is built on a frame. The trailer has a unibody structure with aluminum skin designed to take all or most of the stress to which it is subjected. Airplanes are made in a very similar fashion. This also means no corners push against each other during travel and give the frame flexibility like an airplane. Your Airstream will flex and bow as you hit bumps or encounter wind. This means that there won't be pushing, cracking, and breaking. This is a large part of why an Airstream trailers last so long.

Before the interior is built into an Airstream unit, the unit is water tested twice in a weather chamber to ensure you will never have a leak. Being built from the outside in also means that all the interior is brought in through the door, including the cabinets. Each cabinet is custom fit to be inside of an Airstream. Another benefit of this process is that no part of the structure is reliant on the cabinets or walls. In turn, your cabinets and inner walls will not have as much pressure on their structure and will make them last longer. In total, there are about 300-man hours put into each airstream unit. In fact, there is more time put into the door of an airstream unit than time put into a whole white box unit.
