How to Park Your RV Safely
There are so many things you have to learn when you become an RV owner. One area where campers can struggle is with parking their RVs. Recreational vehicles are quite big, so it’s not surprising that they are more challenging to park than a car or truck. Here are some tips on how to safely and easily park your RV at a campsite.
Check the Campsite Ahead of Time
If you’re visiting a campground or tourist attraction, it’s a good idea to check their website for the approximate dimensions of their parking spaces. Try to find out if your campsite will have overhanging trees, light fixtures, or power lines that might get in your way.
Find a Flat Space
Once you arrive at your campground or destination, you should find a flat and even space to park. This shouldn’t be a problem if you’ve got a paved concrete slab to park on, but it’s still a good idea to make sure that area is clean of all debris and items before you drive your RV onto it. Otherwise, you’ll want to look around the space you’re given to find the flattest area to park.
Get Someone to Guide You
Have one of your passengers (preferably an adult or a responsible teenager) get out of the RV before you park and stand out of your way to watch the RV move and guide you with their hands or with shouted instructions. If you’re parking alone, see if someone camping nearby could spare a few minutes to help you out.
